Description: I’ve had this rare and beautiful 1840’s original bonnet for decades. It is a delightful bonnet and all-original in very good condition. Such a rare & early style is rare to find. The base of the bonnet is a supple woven straw, covered with a gorgeous pale green; almost a light mint green polished cotton. There are some period threads seen inside the bonnet which could be from some inner lace or ruffles that were removed at some point. Ladies in the Victorian period often changed up their ribbons & other trimmings to alter their bonnets and restyle them, rather than just discarding old ones or buying all new bonnets. The rest of this bonnet features all the exterior original floral trimmings and hand-sewn pleated fabric ruffled trim. Little white flowers with yellow centers fashioned along a meandering green vine are amply sewn and make the bonnet very feminine and appealing, following all the lines of the bonnet. The light green silk chin ties are antique but may have been added by an earlier owner. There is some fading and some very light scattered age spotting but this is hard to see and does not distract. All of the straw and fabric materials are strong and pliant., even completely wearable if one desires to. Please message me if you have any questions at all. I am always happy to help. Also, the photos are part of the description and I’ll be glad to provide more if so desired. Thank you for taking the time to visit my listings. I want everyone to be happy with their purchases from me. I hope you will consider adding me to your favorite seller’s list. Blessings, Michelle
