Description: "CHRONOS" When Dali was living in California during the 1940's, he and Walt Disney met at the home of Jack Warner and they decided, based on their mutual respect for each others work, to collaborate. The Destino project itself is quite interesting and historically unique. It is really the only true example of animated Salvador Dali art in film. The seven-minute short follows the story of Chronos and his ill-fated love for a mortal woman named Dahlia. The story continues as Dahlia dances through surreal scenery inspired by Dali's paintings. The film can be viewed on YouTube:(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjeuUWV_R9k) "Destino" is the name of a Mexicanballad Disney had envisioned as a vehicle for a musicalshort film project. Dali was attracted to Destino's titleand the concept of destiny attracting two lovers (Chronos & Dahlia) and in1946 Dali began working at the Disney Studio everyday. After 8 months, twenty seconds of film, various paintings, drawings and storyboards were completed. In 1947, theDestino project was put on hold and it wasn't until 1999that Roy Disney, Walt Disney's nephew, became inspiredto finish "Destino". When Destino was finally unveiled, it was nominated forBest Short Film (Animated) at the 76th Annual AcademyAwards in 2OO3.
