Sansui AU-517 Integrated Amplifier - Fully Restored Audiophile Classic

Description: The Sansui AU-517 is one of Sansui’s legendary integrated amplifiers that is still highly sought after today. This model is rated at 65 watts per channel with amazingly low distortion 0.025%, and has a solid damping factor of 60!. Sansui over-engineered these units to the point that they regularly produce power that significantly exceeds this rating (this model usually measures at about 80 watts per channel). The AU-517 produces beautifully clean audio because it was engineered with a sharp attention to detail, the highest quality components, and hand-crafted workmanship.The AU-517 was a huge success for Sansui and the company sold thousands of these units. It was engineered with highly flexible features such as capability for two sets of speakers, auxiliary input, subsonic filters, audio muting, and bass and treble. The AU-517 also has preamp-out and main-in jacks so that it can be used as a preamp or a power amp in addition to an integrated amp. A subwoofer can also be driven off the preamp-outs. This unit is in excellent condition and sounds fantastic! + All of the aluminum electrolytic capacitors have been replaced on the power amp driver circuit board, the equalizer circuit board, and the tone control circuit board, the function selector board, the preamp-out / in board, and the power supply circuit board with brand-new high-quality Nichicon Muse, Fine Gold, Elna Silmic II, Panasonic FC, and Nichicon capacitors. (see pictures) + This unit has been fitted with four brand-new Cornell Dubilier power supply filter capacitors. (These caps are the four cylinders you see when the cover is removed). Additionally, we installed brand new polyester bypass caps on them as well. Replacing these monsters is not something we normally do if the original large filter caps are not leaking or otherwise compromised. + Old fusible resistors replaced on the power supply, driver, preamp, and equalizer boards with brand new metal film types + The tone control board, phono equalizer, and output driver boards received brand new transistors in addition to the caps, diodes, and resistors . + The power switch was disassembled and the contacts were burnished, cleaned, and dexoidized + The power supply received 8 new transistors as well. + Selected diodes were replaced on the power supply, preamp, and driver boards + A brand new Omron output relay installed + The protection circuit has been restored + Controls have been deoxidized + DC offset and Bias settings have been adjusted to factory specifications + The bias and two of the DC offset potentiometers were replaced with brand new, high quality, 25-turn Bournes trimmer potentiometers + All LED power and indicator lights are fully operational + The exterior is in excellent condition with blemishes typical of its age - please note on the faceplate a prior owner etched into it. + The unit has been thoroughly cleaned The History of SansuiSansui was founded in 1947 in Tokyo Japan.
