Description: ****Stands Not Included**** Here we not only have one of the rarest of the Sasieni patent era 8 dots but a special generational family connection with this absolutely stunning heirloom piece. A smooth 8dot “Temple Bar”. A magnificent and flawless piece of briar that boasts the best quality. First bought by a small business owner who sold soaps and brushes as well as other hygiene products and dry goods. Born in 1891 and served in the US Army in World War 1, was one of the blessed to come back from that war and continue his life and start a family. In 1923 he had a son who grew up through the depression and then served his time in world war 2 in the US Navy. A pipe smoker like his old man, he had a real passion for pipes and was also blessed to come home from that war and continue his life like his father before him. It’s said that inside his government issued bible, he carried a picture of his father and mother in front of their home in St. Paul Minnesota in one pocket and one Benchmade Marxman Jumbo in the other. Coming back from the war he went to work traveling around the country as a salesman for Hills Bros coffee for the next two and a half decades and so you can imagine all the different tobacconists he was able to drop in on along the way, but by the end of the 1940’s his old man was diagnosed with cancer (Of which his family believes was brought on from complications caused from WW1). He survived it but, in 1950, his father quit smoking altogether and the following year found Jr. with his first and last wife and a new family was formed. One of the things given to him in this new venture by his father was this pipe. Life went on and he had 3 daughters, all of which never smoked a pipe. By the mid 60’s his health(Asthma) caused him to put the pipe down for good. By 1971 his first daughter graduated high school and his father also passed away that same year. He went through all the ups and downs of the country and in his personal life and worked up until the very last day when he passed away on Oct. 10, 2008. No matter what his life looked like, he kept a positive attitude always and with an iron will had the spirit to keep working until the day he died. In that same way, the pipe carries that legacy. Life happens and you keep on going. No matter what. One of the things that “old tiger” used to tell us was, “whatever you put your mind to do, you can do it!”. He had a younger brother that also smoked pipes until his passing a handful of years ago and who was given this and most of the collection sometime in the 1980’s and is the reason for the clever modification to the tenon you see here. May the ones who came before us rest in peace and be blessed in the hereafter, and may we all carry on in our lives and in spirit, the legacy of those who went out of their comfort zones and safe havens to provide a good and positive future for the generations thereafter.
