Description: This is a rare and highly collectible 1944 dated hard shell style P.38 holster from WW2. Most 1944 holsters were made in the soft-shell style, and this holster is "lyo" maker stamped, which is a Polish factory maker stamp. The maker stamp along with a date (1944), waffen military proof, and P.38 stamp are all found on the back leather. There's some speculation amongst collectors, but the general consensus is that these LYO holsters were made in work camps under slave labor at the end of the war. These holsters are often found dilapidated and in poor condition as a result. This holster is no exception, having thin leather that's soft and pliable throughout. However, this example is in great overall condition compared to other examples, with no major issues and completely intact. There's some wrinkling on the front leather, as well as a few small numeral "2" stamps, which are likely factory stamps used to label the different components of leather. The stitching is all original with a few loose stitches, but most of the stitching is intact and tight with no major issues. Small break in the leather near the center hinge location just above the 1944 date on the back of the holster, about 1/2 inch wide to 3/4 inch wide break in the leather, it's in the fold of the leather there at the top hinge, should be visible in the photos. Some writing on the front pictured and some on the back toe also pictured neither seem to detract. A highly collectible holster revealing an interesting history.
