His artwork is an outgrowth of research he's been applying in computer graphics to visualize the behavior of iterative numerical methods in engineering design. Burns exhibited his artwork at art fairs throughout central U.S. from 1990 to 2015. He still teaches a few classes each year at U of I and conducts research on various topics of interest, most recently colorimetry.
