The author himself an experienced traveler, knows the futility of any tourist trying to see all there is of interest in Italy, even in a lifetime. From his extensive travels, he has selected those places and objects of greatest importance and attraction and his presentation of them is most delightful and informative. Mr. Newman also gives suggestions as to the best seasons, hints to motorists fees and prices suggestions about eating, hotels and pensions, transportation, luggage and passports and hints for further reading. At the end of each chapter invaluable information is added suggesting what trips to take the names of hotels, whether to travel in cabs or motor cars and names of restaurants, cafes..... The entire volume is pleasantly spiced with anecdotes of the author's experiences during many years of travel in this country, and includes 298 of the choicest pictures from his famous collection of photographs. Speaking of these the Syracuse Post Standard says, even without the text the book would be a treasure house. ... photographs, with subjects ranging from early Roman architecture, sculpture and painting to bridges, donkey carts the Vatican gardens, tarantella dancers the catacombs with their ghastly occupants, Capri's famous Blue Grotto the graves of Shelley and Keats.... ...
