Description: SENCORE -SG165-WORKING-RE-CAPPED-TUNED-UP Up for sale is this SENCORE SG165. A lot of units like this say, “Powers On But Untested” They all power on whether or not the unit is working since the power lamp is connected to the main AC input then to the power switch. At the old age of most equipment, most all the Capacitors have dried out and the unit will either not function or be way out of Spec. This Unit has been tested for output with an “OWON” Digital Oscilloscope and a Vintage Hewlett/Packard High End Frequency Counter. Also Common With this unit is the tuning shaft which is solid nylon at the dial end and hollowed out at the connecting end of the tuning capacitor shaft end. It was a design flaw. If you over torque the tuning knob it will break the shaft at the Tuning Cap end. They also fail with age. I have Added 3 layers of heat shrink to the shaft end that is hollowed out that sits on the tuning cap end. Also, I have added new longer locking screws on the tuning shaft hold down to make it easier to adjust. See pictures. The Unit does tune in the RF-FM mode from “88-MHz Thru to “108-MHz and also has the AM frequencies as shown in the pictures I have checked that on the scope and my HP frequency counter. As with any old analog Oscillator generated signal, a good frequency counter should be used to fine tune what is shown on the dial. See the Pictures. When switched to “XTAL CONTROLLED MODE” CW WAVE ONLY” IT IS READING CORRECTLY. All the other frequencies marked on the FM side are there. Also, The top Meters were tested with the 8 Ohm load setting using a 250 Watt Power amplifier at low level. They are working fine. See the pictures. ALSO NOTE* As with any analog equipment it is always a good practice to let the unit warm up to Power Supply and Component operating temperatures for Accurate readings. APPEARANCE: The outer black case is in good condition. There are some normal wear and tare marks that are to be expected with age around the front aluminum trim. As with the front panel which shows a few small blemishes. This Unit was 100% Made in the USA. It is still in demand and the company has moved on to gear not made for Service Techs. It is also in use by many Vintage Stereo Repair Techs as seen on YouTube as well as Vintage repair shops.
