Description: Item #3349 This is a set of 4 pieces (2 pairs) of cut and polished ammonites. The age is from about 146 to 66 million years ago (Cretatious Period), and is from Madagascar. Ammonites are a squid-like animal with tentacles to snatch prey. They could be tiny in size or 3 feet in diameter depending on the age and species. As the animal grew in size, it would add chambers to accommodate its larger size. This is a fossilized ammonite. These ammonites are polished on the front, and have a partial polish or natural shell. All of the ammonites have very good contrast between the chambers, made of light and dark calcite. One pair has some hollow geode chambers. This ammonite pairs are perfect with no chips and have a perfect polish. There are a couple specks of iridescence on the shell side, but you will have to hunt for it. This is the perfect size for jewelry if that is your thing. Nice quality. These ammonites are all about 1 1/4 inches wide. The set of 4 weighs .70 ounces (20 grams). NOTE: The best color is on the grey background. This set is very light in weight and you could add another similar item for little or no extra shipping. USPS has a minimum of 4 ounces. I always return any extra shipping!!!
