Wostenholm company (IXL) marked bowie knives for export to the USA during the mid to late 1800's. It's been estimated that Sheffield England cutlery firms may have made up to 90 percent of all the Bowie style knives sold in America during the Bowie Knife's heyday. Of those Sheffield makers, the Wostenholm IXL brand had one of the most popular followings in America for their quality made Bowie knife offerings. 3) mid 1800s NON XLL Joseph Allen & Sons Bowie stag handle excellent condition Allen built a reputation for his hollow ground blades. In 1883, Joseph Allen & Sons acquired the "NON-XLL" mark from Unwin & Rodgers, which he stamped on the razors and other cutlery. A lot of Allen's knives and razors were often exported to America. The US firm Adolph Kastor also paid Allen a royalty for the use of its "NON-XLL" mark, because of the resemblance to Wostenholm's "I*XL". 4) mid 1800s NON XLL Joseph Allen & Sons Bowie with deer foot handle excellent condition 5) mid 1800s NON XLL Joseph Allen & Sons Dirk or prostitutes dagger.
