Description: Veco Tomahawk Short Kit VintagePlaneKits Partial Short Kit and Plans Resurrection of the Original 1950's VECO Tomahawk Vintage Control Line Stunt Model Plane Now Available in a Short Kit Format There are a few other Veco type Tomahawk kits being offered by others but this is the one kit that preserves and is most faithful to the original 1950s Veco Tomahawk. This Resurrected Kit of the Original Veco Tomahawk is based on the modern CAD redrawn plans of the original 1950s Veco Tomahawk as submitted on the OuterZone repository. As the OZ submitter stated, there are a couple Tomahawk kits being offered by others, but these plans are the most faithful to the original Veco design. Using those most faithful to the original Veco Tomahawk plans, I was able to preserve the original intent of the original Tomahawk kit as it was back in the 1950s adjusting only what was necessary to accommodate today's readily available materials. Things that are not exact to original (but can be if you insist): The main spar originally was called to be 1/8” x 13/16” balsa stick which is hard to find. The ribs in this kit were adjusted to utilize a 1/8” x 3/4” stick which is readily available. You can always enlarge the slot to accommodate 13/16" spar if you chose to make one 13/16" tall. I also added 1/4" wing jig holes in the ribs which have no real affect on the integrity of the original model but are most convenient for those of us who like to use wing jigs. I provide a CNC machined fuselage from 1/2" balsa whereas the original plans called for the two halves (an upper and lower) of 7/16" balsa which get glued together in the first steps in the original instructions. Pretty sure that 1/2 balsa will be just fine (you can always sand down to 7/16 if you really are an originalist) I opted for 1/2" x 3/8" hardwood motor mount material rather than the original 7/16" x 3/8" to accommodate the 1/2" thick fuselage. For me it made more sense to use 1/2" x 3/8" x 4-3/4" long for added strength and stability, but you can always opt for using the shorter mounts as the plans show. I leave it to you to cut the slots in the fuselage for whatever engine and hardwood you get/use. I used 1/8" wire for the landing gear and made in two pieces joined in fuselage with 1/8" ID tube rather than being made from a single 3/32" piece of wire (for me this is easier and more accurate). Of course, you can always opt for whatever wire you want, single- or two-piece landing gear, it’s your choice. I used readily available 1/8" plywood for the bell-crank platform and supports vs 3/32" called for in original plan. I doubt a 1/32" of an inch on the platform makes any difference with respect to originality. This Short Kit Includes My Updated Full Size Printed Plans, a Copy of the Original Step-by-step Instructions, Laser-cut parts, and the two-piece CNC Machined fuselage and Canopy Piece. What’s Included: Specifically, you will get the following: CNC Machined 1/2" Balsa Fuselage & Canopy parts Sixteen 3/32" Wing RibsFour 3/32" Center RibsLeft and Right 1/8" Wing Tips Twenty 1/16" Wing Tip RibsTwo fixed flaps Left and Right 1/16" Light Plywood Doublers1/8" Plywood Bell-crank platform & supports1/8" Balsa Horizontal Stabilizer & Elevators1/8" Rudder, Vertical Stab and FinOne 1/8" Plywood Tail Skid Set of recently updated printed plansCopy of the original Build Sheet I've also included some scrap 1/2" balsa for filling in the nose between the doublers after the engine hardwood mounts are assembled. Since this is considered a custom made to order item, there are NO returns for obvious reasons. I have extensive delivery times because sometimes it can take a long time to get balsa shipped to the shop. If I have everything on hand, it can take as little as a couple of days to cut and ship. If you are in a hurry, send me a message and I will check stock before you order. Thanks for looking and keep that circle flying.
