SIGMUND ROMBERG - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 03/17/1932 - HFSID 289820 SIGMUND ROMBERG Typed Letter to his attorney, displaying a very casual attitude toward the contents of his safe deposit boxes, and also confiding (at the depth of the Depression) that "conditions in the theatre are terrible." Typed Letter signed: "Romberg. 1 page, 8½x11. New York, N.Y., 1932 March 17. On personal letterhead to Mr. Ralph H. Blum, Bank of Hollywood Building, Hollywood, California. In full: "In view of the fact that I am not returning to California in the near future, I think it is foolish to keep the two safe-deposit boxes I have in the Bank of America, Hollywood Blvd., and Highland Avenue Branch. I am sure there is nothing of great importance in them, but if you will drop in there one day real soon and send me whatever there is in either of them I would appreciate it very much. I am enclosing one key for box #1710, but the key for box #1610 has been lost; so if there is any expense attached to having to open it, kindly pay it and I will reimburse you. I am writing Mr. C. H. Vanderlip, Vice President of the Bank, to the effect that I have given you authority, as my attorney. Things remain very much the same. Conditions in the theatre are terrible, so I have decided not to do anything until next fall. In the meantime, I am busy fighting for a new copy right bill in Washington, and also fighting for a new contract for the popular Song Writer of America, so in all, I manage to keep busy and am marking time until conditions improve. Lillian is well and joins me in sending our love to you and Carmel. As ever sincerely". Hungarian-American composer Sigmund Romberg (1887-1951) wrote over 2,000 popular songs as well as romantic operettas with songs flavored by his earlier Viennese influences. Romberg's most famous operettas were The Student Prince (1924, included the songs "Deep in My Heart", "Serenade" and "Drinking Song"), The Desert Song (1926, featuring "One Alone") and The New Moon (1928, with songs "Lover, Come Back to Me" and "Stout Hearted Men"). Normal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition. See more material from these signers: SIGMUND ROMBERG See more listings in our MUSIC & PERFORMERS (2,967) category.
