Description: The Great Kapok Tree: A Tale of the Amazon Rain Forest, by Lynne Cherry, 1990 hardcover children's book with the original dust jacket, reinforced (library) binding, published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich (Gulliver Books), printed in Singapore. Signed by the author, who is also the illustrator, and personalized to the previous owner in light ballpoint ink on the title page. Measures approximately 11 1/4" by 9 1/4" by 1/2" thick. This book is profusely illustrated with very vivid and colorful depictions of the Amazon Rainforest and many of its natural inhabitants. Also included is an "Explorastory Teacher's Guide" to accompany a lesson on science, nature and ecosystems. I consider this book to be in acceptable to good overall vintage/pre-owned condition with the following noted flaws: The dust jacket shows minor creasing, small tears and chipping along the edges/corners, dulling and shallow surface scratches; the red cover boards show mild staining, edge/corner rubbing and an indentation and scraping at the bottom area of the rear cover (does not appear to have gone through to the inner board). The book has been fitted with a new clear mylar dust jacket protector which is not permanently affixed and can be easily removed if desired. With the exception of the signature and inscription on the title page, the book pages appear to be clean and free from writing or damage.
