This listing is for a Genuine 1.2 gram Sikhote-Alin Shrapnel Meteorite from the Sikhote-Alin Mountains, Primorye, Soviet Union. The Meteorite in the Pictures is the Exact One you will receive. Included is an Acrylic Gem Case & Information Card! The Sikhote-Alin Meteorite fell at 10:38am on February 12, 1947 in Russia. Witnesses reported a fireball that was brighter than the sun. It left a trail of smoke and dust that was 20 miles long and lingered for several hours. Sikhote-Alin is one of the most spectacular falls of recorded history and one of a very small number of recent iron meteorite falls. Shrapnel specimens are sharp edged pieces of the Meteorite showing evidence of violent fragmentation which were either torn apart during the atmospheric explosions or blasted apart upon impact on the frozen ground. Most were probably the result of the explosion at an altitude of 3.5 miles before impact. The Sikhote-Alin meteorite is classified as an Iron Meteorite composed of approximately 93% Iron, 5.9% Nickel, 0.42% Cobalt, 0.46% Phosphorus, and 0.28% Sulfur, with trace amounts of Germanium and Iridium.A Perfect Gift for any Young Future Scientist and a Must for any Space Lover!
