SIR WALTER SCOTT - AUTOGRAPH LETTER FRAGMENT UNSIGNED - HFSID 73416 SIR WALTER SCOTT An autograph fragment of a letter penned by the poet Autograph Letter Fragment, unsigned, 1p, 4x8. No place, no date. To unnamed correspondent. In full: "am deeply sorry for the necessity of Mrs Seills returning to Canada at all But their present fortune though in one point of view comfortable & independent would hardly enable them to give up a certain & advantageous situation upon the very uncertain prospect of some provision here. I think with prudence they may manage to come here soon and I most sincerely trust that you dear Madam may have the pleasure of receiving them in their native country." A multi-talented novelist, biographer, poet, editor, translator and critic, Scott (1771-1832) is perhaps best known for his romantic works Rob Roy (1818), Ivanhoe (1819) and Kenilworth (1821). His popular narrative poems include "The Lay of the Last Minstrel" (1805), "Marmion" (1808) and "The Lady of the Lake". Lightly creased with folds. Irregularly cut at upper edge, chipped at lower blank edge. Lightly soiled, touching writing. Mounting paper remnant shows through slightly at lower margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
