Description: Someone Like You by Roald Dahl, Dom Joly Includes eighteen tales of the macabre. FORMAT Paperback LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description First time in Penguin Modern Classics for this collection of stories for adults, with a new foreword by Dom JolyThese eighteen tales of the macabre show Dahls dark brilliance as a short-story writer. They are wicked (as an old man attracts the attentions of those more interested in his skin than his wellbeing), shocking (as distasteful bets are made - a daughters hand on the identity of a glass of claret, a finger risked for a Cadillac) and blackly humorous (as a cuckolded husband receives a chance to take his revenge out on his wifes neck). Someone Like You is as devilishly ingenious and suspenseful as writing gets. He was educated in England before starting work for the Shell Oil Company in Africa, and began writing after a monumental bash on the head sustained as an RAF fighter pilot during the Second World War. He worked in a tiny hut in the apple orchard of his house in Buckinghamshire until his death in 1990 at the age of 74. Roald Dahls many books continue to be read by children the world over who delight in the magic of his marvellous storytelling. His books continue to be bestsellers, despite his death in 1990, and total sales are 100 million worldwide! Review Quote The absolute master of the twist-in-the-tale ObserverRoald Dahl is one of the few writers I know whose world can accurately be described as addictive. Through his tales runs a vein of macabre malevolence, the more effective because it springs from slight, almost inconsequential everyday things. The result is a black humour of the most sophisticated kind Irish TimesFantastic as Grimm, heartless as Saki Guardian Promotional "Headline" These eighteen tales of the macabre show Dahls dark brilliance as a short story writer.
