Description: Soviet Army field cap in olive drab cotton, dated 1988.This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL military cap from the Soviet period, not a more modern issue or a replica! This model was widely used by Soviet servicemen in Afghanistan. It was at first worn by Soviet Spetznaz and was commonly referred to as "Mobutu" cap, named after the Congo dictator who the Soviets attempted to destabilize and overthrow. The original cap design dates to the early 1970s and was intended for export to Africa, eventually a Soviet tropical cap was designed on its basis and the nickname remained. This cap was later widely used by Soviet soldiers in Afghanistan and now it is often called “Afganka” cap.Made in rugged cotton, very soundly stitched, with reinforced vent holes on each side and simulated leather sweat band. The liner shows clear maker stamp of the Headgear Factory in the city of Prilukiof with a 1988 date of manufacture. There is also an additional smaller quality control stamp in black. The size is marked 55 (which corresponds with US size 6 7/8, Small)The hat is in new unissued condition. Nice ORIGINAL piece of militaria .FREE SHIPPING (USPS Ground Advantage Mail) WITHIN USA ONLY!
