Description: Soviet Badge of a Veteran of the Dnepropetrovsk Aircraft Repair Enterprise, issued in 1991 on occasion of the 50th anniversary of the unit. This is GUARANTEED ORIGINAL badge issued to a VIP veteran or manager of the factory in 1991, not a more recent issue or a replica!Made in aluminum, paint and lacquer. The medallion measures approx. 36 mm in height (including the eyelet), 33 mm in width. The medallion shows the inscription “Dnepropetrovsk Aviation Repair Enterprise” and dates “1941-1991”. Nice artwork showing a futuristic looking fighter jet. There is a red star at the bottom designating military nature of the factory. The suspension shows Soviet military aviation insignia with starburst flag of the Soviet Air Force. The badge is in GREAT condition, free of significant wear. The pin attachment is fully functional.During the Soviet times, the city of Dnepropetrovsk was a major manufacturing and research center for all kinds of military equipment including aircraft and ballistic missiles. Its military factories were deemed so important that the city was completely off limit for any foreign visitors. Ironically, these same factories became property of the independent Ukraine after USSR broke up in 1991. The badge was thus one of the last “veteran” awards issued during the Soviet era.
