Description: Measures 6-1/2" X 9", 96 pp, original b&w illustrations from the original magazines, front cover illustration by MADMAN, edited by TOM MASON, stated "Second Printing: May 1990," trade paperback published by Malibu Graphics Inc. (CA). Way up on the top row, and way, way, way in the back of the 1930s magazine stands, you may have found a copy of SPICY DETECTIVE STORIES -- one of the raciest, most overtly sexual of all the pulp magazines. Some retailers only provided it to customers "from under the counter," and only if they could prove that they were over 21 years old. Some magazine sellers refused to carry it at all, fearing being arrested by the Police Vice Squad for selling "pornography." 'Cause SPICY DETECTIVE STORIES were definitely "spicy," and downright "titillating" (pun definitely intended -- just check out the original 1930s period b&w illustrations!). SPICY DETECTIVE STORIES went a few steps beyond the regular, run-of-the-mill pulp magazines, in that it meant to lure in its readers with the hint (and sometimes downright promise!) that the stories inside would raise your temperatures, and make you blush. Oh, well -- promises, promises -- but the stories sure provided lots of winks and nods -- if you know what I mean!
