Description: Spoken from the Heart by Laura Bush (2010 1st Edition Hardcover in Dust Jacket) •Author: Laura Bush •Illustrator: Historic Photographs •Jacket Design: Rex Bonomelli •Publisher: Scribner New York, NY U.S.A. 2010 Laura Bush was First Lady of the United States from 2001 to 2009. She founded both the National Book Festival and the Texas Book Festival. Some may too quickly discount the appeal of this book based on their own political point of view or their opinion of Mrs. Bush's spouse. To do so is a mistake, as Laura Bush's compassion, her sense of humor, her grace, and her uncommon willingness to bare her heart make this story revelatory, beautifully rendered, and unlike any other first lady's memoir ever written. The content of this book is full of substance and deserves to be read. For example, Mrs. Bush discusses, in great detail, her adolescent experience as the driver at fault in a fatal car accident, including her regrets and what she learned from the experience. She also describes life in the White House and her experience on September 11 2001 in such a manner as to make the reader feel like a fly on the wall during those difficult times. She also writes about issues such as literacy with passion and concern. Her account of being the spouse of the leader of the free world is told without any partisan bent (she reminds us that she is "Republican by marriage") using the common touch of someone talking about the work of their spouse who had an interesting job. Jacket design by Rex Bonomelli. Three sets of 4 plates of photographs are bound in, but not numbered, with text. viii + 456pp + 24 pages of photos. ISBN: 978-1-4391-5520-2. No LCCN. MSR = US $30.00. Notes on Condition/Edition ratings: Fine – means like new, but any book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new” or even “new.” Using the same term as coin collectors, “can’t guarantee it is uncirculated, but it looks very much like it could be.” Booksellers need similar grading to describe this... Like New – A new book, no marks no damage (except maybe remainder marks or shelf-wear) except not obtained directly from the publisher or in packaging from the publisher. Same sort of thing about grading as Fine above except generally used for newer publication dates with title still in print. Good – How someone else might take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” This is the most likely condition for books of this age & title, shows the book has been read or previously owned. Acceptable – How a young child, student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to make sure someone doesn't steal it by plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or a book that has been damaged.) Poor – Combination of “acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as well. Might have missing pages (you should ask). Usually requires repair to be usable. Near – Means “almost” in an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on the high end. 1st Thus – Unique somehow, maybe 1st paperback, new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st edition. A collector might desire this copy for their collection. Thanks for looking!
