Description: A superbly made, show stopping sterling silver 1.5 pint Newcastle dome top tankard made during the reign of George II. Lidded tankards were a popular choice during the 18th century as the lid keeps out the flies and wasps. The thick gauge of silver used gives it a wonderful deep shine and a very pleasing feel to handle. It really is an impressive and usable piece of Georgian silverware. It is fully hallmarked to the base, Sterling silver, Newcastle 1757. It also marked to the lid and the handle. Makers mark of John Langlands. It has beautifully engraved contemporary initials to the handle. It is in an excellent condition being free from any damage, repairs or thin spots. The inside is in good order. The hinge is in good working order. Stands steady and true. Some very light surface wear that can be seen on a close inspection. 18.5cm height to the tip of the thumb piece. 11cm diameter at base. 10.6cm diameter of lid. 17.5 width including the handle. 1.5 Pint capacity. 720 grams.
