Description: Purple-Red Strawflower (Helichrysum bracteatum) - 100 •Bee Friendly •Butterfly Friendly •Hummingbird Friendly •American grown seeds •Easy to grow •USDA Zone: 1-12 Description: Strawflowers are ideal for fresh bouquets and dried arrangements, and they make a beautiful addition to sunny borders or containers. Strawflower is easily established from Helichrysum seeds, and offers an abundance of double blooms during the late spring and early fall. Long, hot summers are ideal for Strawflower cultivation. Strawflower is a daisy-like flower that originated in Australia. Its strong scent is reminiscent of the Australian bush, where several of its relatives grow in the wild. Helichrysum flowers dry quickly and exhibit their vibrant colors for months or even years, which is why they are called "everlastings." Strawflowers are also known as Everlasting Daisy and Helichrysum Paper Daisy. This variety will have amazing dark pinks, reds and purples shades. Planting Instructions: Direct sow seeds in early spring, pressing them into the surface of the soil since they need light to germinate. Keep the soil moist until germination which usually occurs within 2 weeks. To start indoors, plant several seeds each in peat pots, keep the soil lightly moist and at room temperature until germination. Transplant the seedlings outdoors after the threat of frost. Once established, they tolerate dry and hot conditions well and will only need watering in extended periods of dry weather. Do not overwater. Pinching off the tips of developing plants will encourage branching and produce fuller, bushier plants. Harvesting Instructions: For fresh flowers, cut long stems of flowers that have just opened and place them in water immediately. Strip the leaves that will fall below the water surface. For long lasting dried flowers, cut blossoms just before they fully open, bundle the stems and hang them upside down to dry. •FREE SHIPPING on all orders of $35 or more. •Flat Rate shipping no matter how many seeds you order. •Growing instructions included on each seed packet. *All information is provided for educational purposes only.
