Description: Sweden Gustafsberg Gustavsberg 3 Large Oval Platters 1914 Orient Blue White Gold Sweden Gustafsberg Gustavsberg 3 Large Oval Platters 1914 Orient Blue White Gold An Exquisite Decorative SCANDINAVIAN Set of 3 OVAL PLATTERS, COBALT BLUE on White w/Gold, circa 1914 from GUSTAFSBERG POTTERY in Sweden Gustafsberg ( also spelled Gustavsberg) Porcelain Factory began porcelain production in 1827 and was closed in 1994 when it was sold off in pieces. This was located near Stockholm, Sweden. Porcelain has been manufactured there since the 1820’s and the industry is the reason that the community of Gustavsberg grew around the factory. The site of the porcelain factory was previously a brickworks established in the 1640’s. In 1821, Johan Herman Ohman, a merchant, purchased the Farsta Manor and the brickworks and received in 1825 from the chamber of commerce the right to manufacture all types of porcelain. The manufacture of both bricks and porcelain continued until the 1930’s. At the turn of the 20th century, over 800 people were employed in the porcelain works. The mark on the back of these platters is identified by the website marks4antiques as mark #25 which was used from 1910-1940. These also have the impressed mark dating the pieces to 1914. The mark in blue identifies the pattern as Orient and the manufacturer as Gustafsberg. Overall, the condition of this set of 3 large oval platters is excellent. There is no rubbing to the floral designs. There is only very minor light, short utensil marks on the centers of the pieces. Please remember that we are extremely picky; here is what we find. The largest platter has one very small pin point size manufacturing pit which has slight browning. The medium platter appears perfect but has a small nick on the foot rim. The smaller platter has an old small shallow narrow flake on the rim which has been skillfully and accurately glued. There is slight browning in the age-appropriate crazing in the center of the platter. On the back, there are 4 very tiny rim nicks which are not visible and you barely can feel them when you run your finger around the rim on the bottom. Otherwise, there are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how exceptionally beautiful this set of 3 oval antique platters is. Considering their age, this set is truly in extraordinary condition. The largest oval platter has dimensions of 14 1/8" by 10 1/4" and stands 1 3/4" tall. The medium oval platter has dimensions of 12 1/2" by 9 1/8" and stands 1 1/2" tall. The smaller oval platter has dimensions of 10 1/8" by 7 3/8" and stands 1 3/8" tall.
