Description: 1910 T206 card of Gavvy Cravath of the Minneapolis Millers Ball Club Sweet Caporal 350 Factory 30 Reverse Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE CRAVATH, CLIFFORD GAVVY We all know that Barry Bonds surpassed the Major League Career Home Run Record set by Hank Aaron. Many of us also remember that Hammering Hank surpassed the Home Run Record set by the great Babe Ruth BUT In 1921, Babe Ruth surpassed the Career Home Run Record of what Major League Player? Nobody seems to remember the Career Home Run Record of Clifford Carlton ‘Gavvy’ Cravath. Born in Poway, California, Cravath was the first player from the San Diego area to play in the Major Leagues. He was nicknamed ‘Cactus Gavvy’ Cravath for much of his baseball career. He was a right handed outfielder who played for the Philadelphia Phillies during most of his eleven (11) year Major League Career which spanned from 1908-1920. He also played single seasons for the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and the Washington Senators. This card, was from 1910 when he played for part of the season with the Minneapolis Millers of the American Association which would be considered his 'rookie' card. He was actually 27 years old as a rookie and retired at the age of 38 when he won his last Home Run Title! From 1913 to 1920, he led the Major Leagues in Home Runs six (6) times!! In 1921, his 20th Century Career Home Run Record of 119 Home Runs was broken by George Herman ‘Babe’ Ruth. Gavvy Cravath was forgotten into history……… After baseball, Gavvy went into the real estate business and became a Magistrate (Justice of the Peace) in Laguna, California in 1927 where he lived the rest of his life until his death in 1963 at the age of 82. Interesting to note that his nephew, Jeff Cravath was the head football coach at USC from1942-1950. A nice card for display and collecting! An opportunity to own a true piece of baseball history and a card of the first pioneer slugger of the 20th century. Please view the images for determination of condition and quality Thanks for the consideration
