Jimgrim [James Schuyler Grim], Athelstan King [from Khyber Rifles] and Chullunder Ghose. "The Nine Unknown" is the story of a gigantic secret organization in India of the same name. At the head of the organization are nine persons, each of whom is secretly elected by the other eight whenever a vacancy occurs. Each of the nine members has nine lieutenants and each of these lieutenants has another step down -- and so on indefinitely. Only the "Nine Unknown" know the other members of the organization and none of his nine knows any of the others. The plot centres around a group of ancient books and the disappearance of an enormous sum of gold each year. A strangely assorted group of men, consisting of English, natives and Mongols, band themselves together to find the books and recover the gold. This develops into strife between the "Nine Unknown" and their opponents. A mystery story that is far out of the ordinary, baffling solution and holding attention until the very last.
