[Repair and Maintenance] ・The capstan motor of the direct drive was rotating at high speed, so we repaired it. ・Gear C of the drive mechanism was replaced with a good quality compatible product (TEAC has stopped shipping maintenance parts). ・Pulley rubber was replaced with TEAC genuine product. ・Pinch roller rubber was surface polished and cleaned. ・Mechanic maintenance (Cleaning, lubricating, adjusting) ・Demagnetization of tape travel path, such as head ・Disassembly and maintenance due to gash in phone volume ・Check insulation resistance above measurement limit (199 MΩ) at 100 V mega. [Adjustment Items] The following items have been adjusted in accordance with the maintenance regulations. - Speed adjustment (Variable range is more than ±12% of the specification. Use ABEX ACT-111) - Azimuth adjustment (using TEAC MTT-257 L) - Input level adjustment (using ABEX MTT -150) - Playback equalizer adjustment (using TEAC MTT-255 C) - Output level adjustment (including XLR jacks) - VU meter display level adjustment - Bias adjustment - Calibration of the user bias adjustment mechanism [Operation confirmation] All functions except the wired remote control function have been confirmed to work. (The remote control function cannot be checked because there is no remote control.) Currently, there is no gari on each volume. I checked the input/output from the RCA input/output terminal and the XLR terminal. [Playback characteristics] When a test tape (TEAC MTT-257 L-Normal tape) was played back and measured at the OUTPUT connector, the frequency characteristics were -2dB for both left and right channels at 10KHz, relative to 315 Hz. There is a slight drop in the high range, but it is within the specifications. [Recording characteristics] After adjusting the bias, when I switched between Source and Tape while recording, I could hardly recognize the sound change. (It may not be reliable because it is hard to hear sound over 10KHz due to aging.) When I recorded and played back the sound source of 400 Hz and 10KHz, the level difference was about ±0dB for Normal, ±1dB for CrO2, and -2dB for Metal. Fine settings can be adjusted by a manual bias adjustment mechanism. As for noise reduction, it seemed to be effective in the sense of hearing. [Bias setting] The bias setting is adjusted according to the following three types of tapes. Normal: TDK AE60 CrO2 : AXIA PS-IIs 50 Metal : AXIA J'z METAL 50 The optimum bias value depends on the tape.
