From the forward: The publication of Texas Public Buildings of the Nineteenth Century brings to completion the primary objective of the Texas Architectural Survey. In 1963 the officers of the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth invited the School of Architecture at The University of Texas to participate in a survey of the historic buildings of Texas. As the first survey of its kind in the state, it produced an inventory of Texas's architectural heritage that served as the basis for two pub-lications, the first being Texas Homes of the Nineteenth Century. These books present in photographs and documentary text a selection of the most representative examples of the historic buildings of Texas. In this second volume Professor Robinson's carefully documented text and Todd Webb's informative photography will promote the wider objective of the Survey in continuing to stimulate the interest and concern of the public in the preservation and enjoyment of a significant part of our heritage.
