The story follows siblings Amanda and Oscar Fitzalan, who are deprived of their rightful inheritance by a forged will. The novel is filled with Gothic elements like old mansions and a haunted abbey, set within a sentimental narrative. The book was a major commercial success and remained popular throughout the 19th century. I acquired this book from a private estate. It was kept on a Library bookshelf for decades; it was gently handled over the years. CONDITION: This antique book is in very good-plus condition, as evidenced by the photos. The front cover and spine are decorated. The covers are in very good-plus condition with very light age-expected corner wear. The inside covers are in very good condition, with no cracking or separation present at the hinges. The pages are in very good to very good-plus condition. The pages are crisp.
