Description: First edition, first issue copy of Thomas Dixon Jr.'s The Clansman. (New York: Doubleday, Page & Co. 1905) This is the scarce "Author's Presentation" copy (see photo). An unapologetic work of fiction by a proud racist and North Carolina lawyer, glorifying the Ku Klux Klan and the Confederacy. The book sold very well at the time and served as the basis for W. D. Griffith's haunting silent film, "The Birth of a Nation" (1915). VG- condition, with light overall wear, especially to spine extremities, and soiling to boards; slightly cocked. Still, a decent and collectible example. Compare with comparable copies on ViaLibri that sell for up to $600. Well-packed. I highly recommend shipping via PRIORITY MAIL.
