Description: THE FIGHTING TUDORS AND THEIR IMPACT ON HISTORY THIS BOOK EXAMINES ONE OF THE MOST FASCINATING, AND STORIED, ERAS IN ENGLISH HISTORY - the period in which the Fighting Tudors ruled the roost. Published by the British National Archives, it gives an account of the century following the seizing of the throne by Henry VII following the Battle of Bosworth. It was an era that produced Henry VIII and Elizabeth I and it witnessed, among other things, religious turmoil, rebellion, the Spanish Armada, and diplomatic and foreign crises. The Tudors reigned over a time of turbulence and trouble (giving today's dramatists and movie-makers an endless supply of material for their entertainments) but it was also an age of great achievements - including progress in the progress of civilization in government. AUTHOR DAVID LOADES, AN HISTORIAN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WALES AND OF OXFORD, is an authority on the Tudor period and he is particularly noted for his ability to write about the complexities of history in a popular way for the general reader. His specialty is the Elizabethan Navy. One focus in this very readable work is the way in which the Tudor monarchs converted the governing elite from a military and clerical base to a civilian and secular one. By the end of the reign of the Virgin Queen Elizabeth I, the affairs of England were in the hands of lawyers and civil servants. THE BOOK ON OFFER HERE IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION WITH CLEAN, CRISP PAGES, no underlines or margin notes, a firm and square binding and an intact dust-jacket. It is a nice book, recommended for anyone who wants to understand how the world got to the point where we find it today.
