Description: This 1961 mono LP from Caedmon Records (TC 1145) (a U.S. issue but recorded in various sites around England, Scotland and Ireland) is a collection of traditional ballads by native singers, The Folk Songs of Britain, Vol. IV: The Child Ballads. These songs were recorded in the field by Peter Kennedy, Alan Lomax, Seamus Ennis, Hamish Henderson and Sean O'Boyle. The many featured vocalists are identified on the album for each song, along with where it was recorded. Album notes are in English. Also included is a lengthy (46-page) booklet by Peter Kennedy and Alan Lomax detailing each song, along with lyrics and musical notation by Michael Bell. This is the first of two volumes in the series covering The Child Ballads. We have the second (Caedmon Records TC 1146) available in our listing 315888857656. The outer sleeve has a lot of shelf wear and some edge damage, along with a previous owner's name and address inkstamped on both sides, but has served to protect the record itself very well. (See Photos 1 & 2) This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
