The story then flashes back 24 hours to provide portaits of all those travelling on the bus. In 'First a Girl' (1935), Elizabeth (Matthews) delivers dresses for a dressmaker and while on an errand to a local theatre, she meets a female impersonator with laryngitis. He persuades her to take his place in a show, in which Elizabeth is an instant hit.
