Description: The Sphinx July 15, 1916 issue, published by A.M. Wilson from Kansas City, Missouri, as the official organ of the Society of American Magicians. Size is 8 7/8" x 11 5/8" in poor condition, with significant wear, signs of yellowing, detached pages, folds, bent corners, creases, marks and tears. This is a fantastic early glimpse into the world of professional magic. Theodore S. Blakesley is on the cover, and it looks like he's holding a teapot. Behind him is a talking skull. Inside there is news about the popular magicians of the day, with some cool ads for Hamley Bros Ltd., Martinka & Co., Mysterious Dunninger, G. Wilhelm, Pittsburgh Association of Magicians, George Johnson's "The Magic Wand," Bernard Irving's "The Magician Monthly," Laurant, and Donald Holmes. There is a great feature article on The Houdini Library by Oscar S. Teale, and another feature on the tricks of Stanley Collins, "The Majestic Card and Wand Trick." Club news is presented for the Society of Detroit Magicians, Magician's Club on London, and the Pacific Coast Society of Magicians. There are reports on Magic tricks include "Card Locaters" by H. Syril Dusenbery, "The Hindu Needle Trick, Using Different Colored Thread" by Jesse A. Mueller, and A Borrowed Coin Is Changed Into A Chosen Card" by Clayton W.
