Doris Barr Stanislawski (1901-1981) was the daughter of James A. Barr and Julia Mann Barr. In 1912, the family moved to the Bay Area, settling in Berkeley. In 1913, her father was appointed Director of Congresses and Conventions for the upcoming Panama-Pacific International Exposition. He later assumed the role of leader for the exposition's Education Department. Doris later attended U.C. Berkeley, graduating in 1924 and later marrying Dan Stanislawski in 1935. Following her husband's appointment as Professor of Geography at the University of Texas, they moved to Austin, where Doris was active as a school teacher and advocate for the education of immigrant children. Following Dan's retirement in 1974, the Stanislawskis returned to Berkeley. Doris Barr Stanislawski died on November 6, 1981Journals entitled "life books," started by her mother, were continued by Doris until mid-1935, shortly after her marriage. Journal entries are supplemented by letters, photographs, clippings, and memorabilia, pertaining to childhood in Stockton and Berkeley; the Panama-Pacific International Exposition and her father's work as Director of Congresses; student days at the University of California, Berkeley; family vacations and trips to Yosemite, the Sierra, etc.; her professions as singer and importer of art objects; her travels in Europe; social activities; and marriage and motherhood.This book contains her collected entries for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, which was held in San Francisco. It was published as a gift for donors to UC Berkeley's Bancroft Library, which holds most of Doris' journals. It was never offered for sale.
