Description: Please take the time to read through my entire item description and view all the photographs. I consistently prepare accurate and detailed descriptions and provide clear close up photographs for all my listings. The aforementioned notwithstanding; note the photos, and video when appropriate, are still the biggest and most important part of this or any description. As the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words". If you would like additional photos or have specific questions just message me and I will respond ASAP. For your consideration is this preowned vintage 1986 nostalgic looking RETRO STYLE Thomas Collector's Edition (No. 1183 on metal tag) AM/FM genuine wood case cathedral radio Model # BD-109. The radio comes with the original Thomas radio factory packing box (seen with the wood grain graphics) and the factory cardboard inserts, the protective draw-string cloth bag the radio was originally shipped inside, an original Thomas radio Instruction’s Manual (as seen in description photo #3) and the original Thomas Radio “outer” shipment box (also seen in description photo #1). Refer to description photos #1 and #2 to confirm the Thomas radio factory boxes and protective cloth bag I describe. You never find these classic retro radios with their original boxes and contents. I have always had a deep appreciation for vintage and classic radios and to that end I purchased this wonderful looking retro radio back around 1986. The radio has been tested and is in working order as it tunes in local AM/FM radio stations with amazing clarity and sound as can be verified in the description video. Note; this is a modern “retro-style” radio manufactured in the mid 1980’s and is intentionally designed to resemble that of a 1930’s-1940’s cathedral radio. The radio is heavy and weighs approximately 6.50 pounds by itself. The radio inside the (2) TWO factory boxes weighs approximately 9.0 pounds. The radio case is made out of genuine wood and measures approximately 13.0" tall, 11.75" wide (across the front) and 8.25” (from front to back). Please refer to description photos #20, #21, #22, #23 and #24 to confirm the weights and size dimensions I described and for more details about the radio. The radio case is made out of genuine wood. The radio knobs are all present and function properly. The wood surface of the radio case is a smooth semi-gloss finish and has a few scattered light surface blemishes and scratches from honest use and handling over the past 40 years. Full disclosure, there is one tiny dent on the right side of the metal Thomas name plate located along the center-bottom edge of the radio. See description photos # 12, #13 and #14 to verify the noted dent. Please refer to all the description photos for more details about the condition of the radio and for more details about what I have described. As can be verified in the description photos the front of the radio features a bronze colored art deco style metal bezel around the station tuning dial. The bezel is marked with the manufacturer’s brand name “THOMAS”. Note; the tuning dial face is not back lighted. Please refer to the description photos for more details about what I have described. The back of the radio has a press board cover secured to the radio case with five Phillips head screws. There are three lines of yellow printing seen in the lower LEFT corner on the back cover that read as follows below. Please refer to description photos #15, #16 and #17 for more details about what I have described. "THOMAS" "COLLECTOR’S EDITION RADIO" "MODEL BD 109" Amazingly, I kept the original two boxes this radio came inside. These radios are rarely found, if at all, with their original TWO boxes. The original "inner" packing box the radio came shipped inside remains in very nice condition, especially for being 40 years old. The outside surface of the packing box features beautiful simulated wood grain graphics and remains structurally intact as can be seen in description photo #1. The “outer” Thomas radio factory shipping box is also original to the radio and is the cardboard box the radio was originally shipped to me inside back in 1986. The outside surface of the box shows genuine age, wear, surface dirt, blemishes and scattered minor tears as it has been in storage for the past 40 years. Despite the aforementioned, the “outer” cardboard shipping box remains structurally intact and completely functional. Refer to description photo #1 to verify the condition of the two boxes and for more details about what I have described. This wonderfully nostalgic looking RETRO STYLE table top AM/FM cathedral design radio remains to be a beautiful functioning piece that has been fully tested and is in working order. This radio will provide both aesthetic beauty and audible tranquility to be enjoyed by all. As previously stated, I had this radio on a shelf in my office for many years and it always evoked positive comments and fond memories from all those who saw and listened to it. Please refer to the description photos to confirm the overall condition of the radio and for more details about what I have described. Please look at the photos closely as they accurately depict the retro Thomas cathedral radio and original factory boxes I describe and show exactly what you will receive if you purchase these pieces. If you have any questions or concerns about the radio, radio boxes, or would like additional photographs of a specific area of the radio please email me and I will respond ASAP. ATTENTION, PLEASE NOTE; in an effort to minimize any possible damage from occurring during shipment, and to protect both original Thomas Radio factory boxes as depicted in description photo #1, the radio will ship from Texas zip code 77362 via USPS Priority Mail “triple boxed”. To that end, the radio will first be secured inside the original factory (simulated wood grain) box, before being secured inside the original “outer” cardboard shipping box, prior to being safely secured inside the third “outer” 18.0" x 16.0" x 12.0" plain cardboard box for shipment. The total estimated weight with protective packing materials is estimated to be between approximately 13.0 and 14.0 pounds after packaging. Buyer pays true shipping cost, if you would like to estimate shipping to your home zip code you can enter the aforementioned shipping information into the USPS postal calculator program.
