There are even island style and reggae rhythms to move things along nicely and give this record a California soft rock feel that stands up nicely to the best of classic ‘70s soft rock records. By ditching any attempt to acquiesce to what might be considered commercial or to contemporize his sound with faux-hip-hop productions or inflections and keeping it organic, pure, and real Schmit has made a record that shows country radio, artists, and producers how country music SHOULD sound these days. And, as a result, Leap of Faith is fittingly timeless. Though there are one or two tracks that rock a bit; by and large, this is a laid back, relaxed affair that is exceedingly listenable.
