The year 2023 was the 60th anniversary of The Titanic Historical Society. For 7 decades they have collected, maintained, consolidated lore, interviews, artifacts, relics and survivor's stories in order to preserve and share the living memory of the RMS Titanic, her crew & passengers, the rescuers, and the history of the White Star Line, Harland & Wolff shipbuilders, sister ships, and other trans-Atlantic liners from days of yore. They were the first such organization in the bygone era before internet, Titanic groups online, big-budget movies . . . even before the discovery of Titanic herself by Dr. Ballard in 1985. Originally called 'Titanic Enthusiasts of America', they have disseminated stories, knowledge and the activities of the membership through their journal, "The Titanic Commutator", which also commenced in 1963, though it was originally called "Marconigram" for its first few issues. To put it in some perspective: This Society was formed a mere 8 years after the ground-breaking book by Walter Lord, "A Night To Remember" was published (in 1955). We owe much to Mr. Lord and the T.H.S., truly. The Society also runs the Titanic Museum in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts, maintains an online public site, and offers a web store. T.H.S. is still a fully non-profit, membership-based organization.
