Description: Description: A very good copy of Henry Miller's banned French Obelisk Press reprint edition of Tropic of Cancer, which was banned from import into England or USA. Éditions du Chêne with the preface by Anaise Nin. This copy is Ca. 1956. Condition: 8vo. 305 pages, publishers paper wraps in red and green with white print to the cover and spine. A bit of creasing along the spine and a small crease to the lower front cover. The interior is in nice condition, clean and unmarked with toning to the pages as is usual. Lower rear cover is a cancel with the bold all-caps statement: "MUST NOT BE IMPORTED INTO ENGLAND OR U.S.A." and the "Fr. 690" price blacked out with a marker. First published in 1934, Tropic of Cancer wouldn't be officially published in the USA until the Grove Press edition of 1961 and in the UK two years later by Calder.
