Description: Over 50 years old, these come from the dawn of time in silicon semiconductor manufacturing. Made in the late 1950s - early 1960s, these are genuine and rare antiques. Any chip, transistor, or wafer collection would be enhanced by adding them. The 0.95 inch is an unpolished blank, while the 1.25 inch is polished to a mirror finish. The very first planar silicon transistors and integrated circuits were made on tiny wafers like these. In the late 1950s pure silicon crystals couldn't be grown to the large sizes we have today. Growing, slicing, and polishing these was very challenging at that time and became an art form in itself over the years. Today single crystal wafers can be eighteen inches in diameter and cut so thin they are flexible. See many other tech collectibles in my ebay store. As a design engineer, I've been working with semiconductors for over 45 years and collected many such oddities along the way. For the past several years I've been supplying rare and beautiful items to museums, universities, and private collectors across the world. Thanks for looking!
