If I remember right, the trip included, besides the two days of travel just to get to Indonesia, a couple of flights on puddle jumpers held together with duct tape, (true story, I been on one like that myself in the Philippines, and let me tell you, it is amazing how fast you can become very religious when you see the pilot adding more duct tape to the wing just before take off!) and then a long trip in a small boat to the group of uninhabited islands where the shell is found. And despite great effort, she found nothing for quite some time, (the shell is rare, after all) and just before she ran out of time and had to head back home empty handed, she finally found one. Whew! . That's shell collecting! . (Also, I noticed them mentioning in the Hawaiian Shell News that there were two distinct color variants of this cone, a light golden and a dark-cocoa, and that the light variant was found exclusively at one end of the island, and that the dark variant was found only at the other end, huh.). Anyhow, when you look at a shell like this, you can understand why she went to all that trouble, they are one of the most exquisite jewels of the conus family! As for this shell, it is a gorgeous, golden, ultra-GEM beauty, a light version of the shell with darker bands, a perfect apex, a smooth, glossy body, a magnificent pattern, and a delicate lip, so it is indeed the kind of shell that provokes people go all out to find one.
