Description: This is an original antique hand colored print from "Uniformenkunde" by Richard Knotel. Uniformenkunde is considered to be one of the best works on Uniformology. The print is entitled "Kanonier Garde-Artillerie, Artillerie-Offizier, Train-Offizier, 1812." Richard Knotel (1857-1914) was a German artist who pioneered the study of military uniforms. His greatest work, "Uniformenkunde" is a huge collection of plates concerning the armies of Europe from the 17th century to the beginning of WW1. These plates, available only through subscription, first came out in 1890. Knotel published 50 or more prints every year until shortly after the start of WW1. There were a total of 1060 prints produced representing 90 different countries, principalities, dukedoms and republics. Each print was hand colored by journeymen artists who had a master print to work from. Our store specializes in original hand-coloured plates on uniformology, with thousands available, with an emphasis on the era of Napoleon.
