Patch of the RECON TEAM attached to the 3rd battalion, 7th Infantry. The Recon unit of the 3/7th was formed form the elite of the battalion jungle fighters and combat trackers and was cross trained by US Special Forces. Arriving out of Fort Benning in December 1966 the battalion had a strength of approximately 900 throughout their stay in Vietnam with the recon team been approximately 14 - 20 men at any one time. The Recon Team with the motto ' SAT CONG' (Vietnamese for Kill Communists) operated in the area surrounding Saigon, including Song Be and Long Binh (as well as the jungle area of Saigon itself). Remained in Vietnam until November 1970 the Cottonbalers (3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry were attached to the 199th Infantry Brigade) throughout their time in Vietnam.
