Description: BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 5. Used vintage LP in Near Mint/Very Good condition. Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Carlos Kleiber conducting. Deutsche Grammophon Records LP Catalog # 2530 516; 1975 Condition: Record beautiful in appearance, labels in perfect condition. Only played once by myself, original owner. Since I subsequently acquired this on CD, I will not play this LP again, sparing additional wear on the vinyl. A good dusting is all the LP wants. Jacket has almost no physical flaws (no wrinkles, no corner crush), only an issue with appearance. Some long scratches (not at all deep) on front. The cardboard is coated in a super-glossy finish, as was the DG practice, and this material has become discolored in quite a few spots (i.e. coating appears to have worn off over the decades); this is not a sign of neglect on my part. Original inner sleeve with soft poly lining included. Behind the Music: Stereo Review magazine positively raved over this recording when it was released in 1975. I believe they named it Record of the Year, or at least very near top of their annual list, in Classical category. This praise was for Kleiber’s reading of this old “war horse” as well as the quality of the recorded sound. I wasted no time in securing my copy. Oddly, I don’t recall Carlos Kleiber going on as one of the world’s most renowned conductors. Hey, it’s a rough business, the Music Business! My personal favorite conductor of the second half of the 20th Century was Claudio Abbado, for what it’s worth. Deutsche Grammophon, it should be needless to say, was/is one of the stalwarts in realm of producing product of the highest artistic and sonic quality. NOTE: On a website that caters to LP collectors, there are only seven copies of this item listed! I think my asking price is very reasonable. About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often! PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely. FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
