Description: Up for auction is the following autographed 4x6 photograph: BIO: James Jarvis RARE WWII USS Indianapolis Survivor. The story and experiences of the USS Indianapolis survivors is one of the most interesting of WWII. After the USS Indianapolis delivered critical parts for the first atomic bomb Little Boy which would later be dropped on Hiroshima to the United States air base at Tinian Island on July 26, 1945, she was in the Philippine Sea when attacked at 00:14 on July 29, 1945 by a Japanese submarine. Most of the crew died from a combination of exposure, dehydration, and shark attacks as they waited for assistance while floating for four days. The Discovery Channel has stated that the Indianapolis sinking resulted in the most shark attacks on humans in history, and attributes the attacks to the oceanic whitetip shark species with an estimated 400-500 sailors killed by the sharks. There were a total of 317 USS Indianapolis sailors who survived. I highly recommend reading Doug Stanton "In Harm's Way" and “Only 317 Survived” both great reads for anyone who wants to learn more about the USS Indianapolis.
