Description: Up for sale is a VERY NICE, HAND COLORED Antique engraved antique map of "GOUVERNEMENT DE ROUSSILLON" Government of Roussillon, France. By Mapmaker, Pierre Francois Tardieu. Pierre Francois Tardieu (1711-1771) was a French engraver and cartographer, nephew of Nicolas-Henri Tardieu. His uncle taught him the art of engraving and he produced many historical and genre works. Published Circa: 1790 - OVER 225 YEARS OLD!! - NOTE: The map is in French and it is unfolded. The map is on hand laid paper and is greatly enhanced with hand coloring. It measures approximately 21" x 16", including the 1 3/4" border area. It is not matted or framed. The map is in Very Good Condition. There is some age related browning, spotting and staining, but most of this would cover up very nicely when matted and framed. There are a few nicks and chips along the edges, as well. There are creases in the corners and a larger crease in the upper right hand corner. Other dings here and there. This is a GREAT MAP and these antique maps are a fabulous piece of history - perfect for any collector! Please email me with any questions and see my store for other great items.
