Description: Antique Victorian (1900) E Herriott & Sons (Sheffield, England) Large Bread Knife with Ornate Silverplated, Numbered Handle. The entire knife measures 12 inches in length. The blade measures 7-1/4 inches in length and 1-1/4 inches in width. The blade is engraved “E. Herriott & Sons, Sheffield” with a mermaid (their logo) in the center. Also engraved is “Bread Knife” with an oval design around it and people scattering seeds on each side. Edwin Herriott was born in 1861 and died in 1938. He spent his entire working life in the Sheffield cutlery business. The name of his company, E. Herriott & Sons was formed in 1900 and the name changed in 1905. This knife was made during that time. I bought this knife from an antique dealer in Sheffield, England while I was living there (for 7 years).
