After the War he worked for a number of cabinetmakers, including the Herter Brothers. He opened a factory of his own in 1873. He created lavish interiors for the wealthy in New York as well and in San Francisco on Nob Hill. His clients included the "Big Four" railroad magnates, Leland Stanford, Mark Hopkins, Jr., Charles Crocker, and Henry E. Huntington. He designed the William J. Graham House in Reno, Nevada. Schastey's work is exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, among others. Known for his furniture well carved and decorated both in Mahogany and woods contrasting with Purple Heart wood. From Aesthetic movement, Renaissance revival to Moorish styles each piece was wonderfully done. This piece is no exception from the ribbed Bombay curves like the Schastey wall clock to the signature oval with carved wood beaded frame, the intricate yet familiar over lapping leaves to the turnings on the top gallery. This piece is extraordinary and is available… I can ship… this is an authentic antique well over 100 years so it does have wear, mesic scratches etc for its age but is in good original shape.
