Description: VICTORIAN CARVED MEERSCHAUM PIPE c1890 A GIFT TO A. PROFEIT FROM QUEEN VICTORIA Click images to enlarge Description Period: Circa 1890. Dimensions: 3.5 inches long. The bowl is 3 inches tall. Condition: Wear commensurate with age and use. The mouthpiece has been snapped and is missing. Marks: Unmarked. Notes: A stunning fine quality carved meerschaum pipe. The inscription reads "ALEXANDER PROFEIT. EVERY GOOD WISH FROM A GOOD FRIEND". Alexander Profeit was the estate manager at Balmoral during between 1875 & 1896. Profeit had a close relationship with Queen Victoria so there is a good chance that this was a gift to him from her. There is another meerschaum pipe in the collection of Aberdeen University which is known to have been a gift from the Queen to Profeit. This would back up this also being a gift from Victoria.
