Description: This is an old brass tag or fob, 1-3/8" wide, from the famous United Fruit Company from the Baltimore MD Division which operated as a steam-ship hub transporting bananas and tropical fruits and also has a railroad system for distribution. The United Fruit Company originated in 1899 and dealt with a variety of tropical fruits, primarily bananas. The company ceased to be in 1970 and has operated under "Chiquita Brands International" since 1984. The United Fruit Company had operated under the pretense of helping to develop areas in Central and South America, of which these nations later became known as the Banana Republics. The United Fruit Company was responsible for building a great amount of infrastructure including a very profitable rail system.
