Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at an older Electro Voice model 950 "Cardax" crystal cardioid microphone. This simple, elegant and timeless design came right from Buchanan, Michigan during the mid 1940's to the late 1950's and has a look similar (but distinctive) to the Shure 55 which was equally beautiful with it's clean lines and deco appearance. Certainly one of the most beautiful mics of all time and it comes with a period E.V 423A model desk stand. Pic # 2 shows this very model in the E.V line up of cardioid microphones being sold at that time in 1946. This 950 Cardax utilized the crystal element which had a decent sound when they were new but this mic has been tested and the crystal element barely works. I would rate the signal strength at only 30%. Most of these 950 model mics don't even work at all. The mic is better off being used for display, prop or repair purposes. This mic has been thoroughly cleaned and tested. The wiring and all the other components are still inside and there is plenty of room in these mics to upgrade if so desired for a higher quality sound. A newer dynamic element or even a ribbon mod would be great for this mic. I know a gentleman who could turn this into an outstanding studio quality ribbon mic if one wanted to do so. As seen in the pics provided...the polished chrome finish has typical wear. There is corrosion / pitting and fine scratches but there are no dents, engravings or fractures. Let the pictures be your guide. I try to provide the most detailed, up close photos available so you know exactly what you are getting and no buyers remorse so common with these older mics. The joint mechanism holds strong and the switch mechanism works just as it should. The black screens show virtually no wear and evenly colored. Threads for the cable and stand are perfect. The 950 badge looks great and the on / off switch works perfectly. This mic I would rate this an easy 6 + on a scale of 1 - 10 though some would rate higher. A fun piece to display anywhere in your home, office or studio. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... It's a period 1960's E.V 423A model desk stand that makes an excellent platform and really compliments the mic showing about the same overall wear. Total dimensions with the mic on top is 10 1/2 inches high x 5 inches wide. The 423A was an entry level stand that has a stock painted aluminum base and a 4 inch riser with a black painted finish. This stand has some very lite scratches and scuff marks on the top of the base and the riser shows the same. This stand is an easy 6 + on a scale of 10. This nice combo will make an excellent display piece anywhere in the home, studio or office. As always... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
